Artist's Statement:
I've had a very diverse life, lived in many different areas of North America, experienced a variety of human situations, worked my way through university as a janitor, roofer, short-order-cook, drug store clerk and carpenter and then managed to move through several academic areas, finishing my last 25 years assessing children and adults with serious brain-behavioral disorders.
I'm not about to paint flowers, sunsets, barns, charming houses or quiet forest paths. I want to bring my experiences to the viewer, to grab eyeballs!! This could be very basic such as playing with colors and forms. At a higher level, I want to create works that tell a story, set a mood, create a unique perspective or lay bare socio-political issues and the hypocrisies of society. My goal is to involve the viewer, not produce hangings that might be appealing because they match wall colors or a general decor.
